The last upgrade I made was perl 5.88, but now there's a perl 5.10 ... has anyone updated? Is perl 6 a good idea or bad? Any gotchas?

What need is prompting you to upgrade perl to 5.10?

The Perl people promise it's more secure, and takes less memory and processor time - but I won't move until CPanel says it's OK!

    Go on, have a guess
It would appear that cPanel only currently support v5.8.8, so if you migrate to another version it could well break things:

If you need a different version of perl for something specific it would probably be safer to install it into a different location, e.g. /opt/ is most commonly used.

lets say, hypothetically, we wanted to be stupid (and unsupported) and didn't want upcp to downgrade perl from 5.10?
    this doable?

I thought there was a file we could touch but I can't figure out what it is.
