    Permission denied when creating email account on cpanel


    Mail Account Maintenance



    Account Created

    The e-mail account test@fmwhri.com with the login Permission denied: /home/fmwhri/etc/fmwhri.com/passwd passwd and password 123456 with a quota of 10 Megabytes was successfully created.

    900mb disk space free.

    please help me regarding this matter.

    cPanel Access Level:
    DataCenter Provider
    can you du -hs /home/*/ (Change * with the actual username)

    Also, what is the quota set for the user?

    Getting the same issue here. Not a quota problem.

    fixed it. permissions on the users homedir. ownerships were wrong as well.

    Hi dahatecatalyst,

    Can you share with us how do you fixed this issue? I tried the following command but still the issue persist and the quota for the user is not yet full.:confused:

    /scripts/upcp --force
    /scripts/mailperm

    check the permissions under /home/fmwhri/etc files/folders

    I realize this thread is old but more details could have saved me a lot of trouble shooting.



    You need to also check the permission _of_ the etc folder, not just "under" (ie. within) the etc folder. That was creating the error for me.

    From /home/user directory, enter: chown user etc

    I don't know if the "Repair Mailbox permissions" feature was available in WHM back in 2008, but regardless this did nothing for me. I first tried the repair feature in WHM and then restarted Exim and still got same error as reported here.

    Glad I finally figured it out!

    You can use following command as root user for cpanel to fix account level mail related permissions.

    # /scripts/mailperm --skiplocaldomains --skipserverperm USER

    Where USER is cPanel account username.
