PHP-FPM and lsapi

We've been seeing large disk latency since the beginning of the month on one of our CloudLinux 7 boxes and have traced that to php-fpm being unable to handle traffic. We've been tweaking settings (https://support.cpanel.net/hc/en-us/articles/360036533754-PHP-FPM-Performance-Tuning-Basics) but still are seeing runaway load averages due to the disk latency, mostly reads.

We've been using php-fpm for quite some time, now, and on our CloudLinux boxes we've been using lsapi. We've been moving accounts off of our older Centos6 boxes where most were using php-fpm and suexec with no issues, they transferred with php-fpm enabled, and we saw no reason to change.

However, according to this, we may be redundant:

But, wait! Apparently WordPressToolkit requires php-fpm to function:

I would like your opinion on PHP-FPM... I was wondering why PHP-FPM is so popular ??? Sorry for worshippers of PHP-FPM, but I don't get it... I had only BAD, super BAD, and more than TERRIBLE outcome with that installed. In my server (Centos 7 + PHP 8 + latest WHM...) I had many time the cpu...

We've been encouraging customers to use WordPress Toolkit to fix their out-of-date sites.

Can we shut off php-fpm? What happens to WordPress Toolkit?

cPanel WordPress Toolkit requires that PHP-FPM Service for cPanel Daemons is enabled.

Thanks. Does this mean that php-fpm needs to be turned on system-wide but since lsapi is supposedly a replacement we can turn it off on each account?

PHP-FPM service for cPanel Daemons is not the same as PHP-FPM service for Apache.
