Ok... here is another post on my saga to become a cpanel expert :)

The last 3 times I have installed cpanel, the installation has stopped near the end, where I have to ctrl Z (found a post where a user suggested doing a ctrl c to continue).

WHM seems to work afterwards. But these times PHP is not parsing. One server I've tried: reinstalling cpanel, reloading buildspache from the separate download.. following all tips I've found while searching.. nothing has fixed it.

What could be going on? I wiped out the server, did a fresh install of RH.. exact same thing.. locks up, no php. But it's been on 3 different servers so it's doubtful it's hardware related. I did my first 5-6 installs fine with no problems.

Also while someone is reading.. I've ALWAYS gotten these error messages during an install:

something about extra files from Getopt::Long found do I want remove instructions listed in Make... or something like that.

Also, I get this every time:

Build with support for Apache mod_perl?(y/n) [y]
Searching for Apache sources...
Look at ..
Look at ../src
Look at ./src
Apache source not found, enter path name or q to quit []

Now I have to hit q here but the install continues. I've tried installing the buildapache FIRST before install cpanel and still get this apache source not found. But obviously it finds it becaue whm will setup domains and load pages fine. And php worked too.. EXCEPT in the last 2 days of these last 3 installs.

What's going on?????

I can't ask my host to do another reinstall... can I just try loading cpanel AGAIN over itself? Will it hurt anything if the customer has sites loaded yet?

Define php &not parsing& - it just spits back the text from the .php pages after PHP is compiled? you are going for 1.3.22 and PHP 4.1.1 , right?

That line you mentioned about Getopt looked like a perl mod--- have you tried reapplying perl561 installer from layer1? If so, what errors are you running into? That might actually be the root of the problem.,,

Yes that is what I meant, it just showed the text from a .php page.

Three times I had the same problem, twice on one server and once on another. I tried reapplying everything.. perl installer, apache installer, reinstalling cpanel.. nothing worked.

But it's now fixed.. after wiping servers AGAIN yesterday everything is working. I got a msg from Nick and said he disable mcrypt because it was buggy and told me to redownload the installer. I don't know if it was that because the installs still locked up during the end and I hit CRTL C and it continued.

I also remember something that I had done on the previous 5-6 good installs and I can't see why this would make a difference but I'm still new to installing cpanel. Every server I setup I install webmin first just because it's easy to do a couple of things with and it's actually saved me more than once by being to let me login with webmin when ssh wouldn't let me so I could reboot server. Anyway, I had activated all necessary servers in webmin before.... apache, bind, etc. I got to remembering on these last failed attempts I didn't do that and I don't see why apache would actually have to be running. BUT everything is perfect now... PROBABLY because of Nick's stopping mcrypt I'm sure :) But until I know for sure I'm going to make sure Apache is running before installing cpanel again.

Does that have anything to do with install cpanel do you know?

Thanks for the help.
