I've turned on PHP safe mode and have had a few clients complain that they can no longer upload files. What is a workaround for them or is there none when safe mode is turned on?

you can turn safe mode off for the user which need php safe mode off working with httpd.conf .
(and for miminal safe you can use openbase dir for them) .

It's has been discussed search on old posts.
