Hi, I´m using release version of cpanel and phpBB isn´t updated to 2.18 yet.

I need to know how it works, if phpBB is responsable or cpanel.

I've just logged onto this forum for the first time in ages to ask exactly the same question. When will the stable version of cpanel be upgraded to include phpBB 2.0.18?

I ran /scripts/upcp and see the following line:

    "Updating addon type:scripts addon:phpBB version:2.0.18-1.2.......Done"

But, when I go into cPanel I still see "phpBB 2.0.17 Setup", it doesn't give me the option to upgrade to 2.0.18.

Looks like they've just fixed this. To remedy ones that show 2.0.18 when it's still actually 2.0.17 uninstall the phpBB option in WHM > Addon Scripts and then install it again to retrieve the new installation files.

I understand that Cpanel automatically keeps instances of phpBB up to date on the server.

My query concerns customized versions of phpBB - with add-ins. - Would cpanel automatically convert them back to the standard version of phpBB, or would it just update any security issues ?

    Thanks
    Daniel

PhpBB is 2.0.19 on our servers using the Release-Tree. Updating openinstaller is one way of keeping updated.

Updating every install on a server isnt a very easy task, considering servers can have a few hundred sites hosted on them.

And just to make everyones day, looks like there's yet another phpBB exploit in versions up to and including v2.0.20:

There's doesn't appear to be a fixed release for it either as yet.

A bugzilla enhancement request for phpBB 2.0.21 has been created at:

    http://bugzilla.cpanel.net/show_bug.cgi?id=4288

I would encourage you to vote for this enhancement so that CPanel developers will work on a patch.

I don't think there are any major security concerns with 2.0.20. 2.0.21 just fixes some minor security issues. I believe the security issues that chirpy mentioned was concluded to be in a phpBB mod and not in the base phpBB code (this was not disclosed when chirpy originally posted the security advisory). You can read more about that security vulnerability at:

Well I have updated my phpBB to the latest version 2.0.21 and it seems like the upgrade was not a success. I now get the following error.

Could not delete old search id sessions

    DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1054 Unknown column 'search_time' in 'where clause'

    DELETE FROM phpbb_search_results WHERE search_time < 1153579988

    Line : 657
    File : search.php

add the missing column 'search_time' in the 'phpbb_search_results' table

    Code:
    ALTER TABLE `phpbb_search_results`
    ADD COLUMN `search_time` int(11) DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL;

    Hope this helps
