PhpMyAdmin not showing databases

In the last two days we've started to receive complaints from our customers that phpMyAdmin is not displaying their newly created databases. When we take a look, the databases definately exist as username_databasename but phpMyAdmin seems to never find them.

Is there some magic script or something we can run to correct this problem?

I recently noticed that phpmyadmin has been delayed in updating. It's been taking 5-10 minutes before new data is received.
