So I set up a forwarder to a pipe that is required for a web app I am running.

The pipe to a php script seems to work as the required action is process but the sender of the email receives a "This is a permanent error."

    Code:
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

     pipe to |/home/username/public_html/cli/requests.php
       generated by requests@domain.com

The following text was generated during the delivery attempt:

    ------ pipe to |/home/username/public_html/cli/requests.php
          generated by requests@domain.com ------

    Request not recognized
It seems the EXIM is generating this message even though the script did process the email.

if this is any help, looking at my exim mainlog I see the following:

    Code:
    2008-12-23 21:28:42 1LFJUI-0007lu-8b ** |/home/username/public_html/cli/requests.php (requests@domain.com) <requests@domain.com> R=virtual_aliases_nostar T=virtual_address_pipe: return message generated
Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this?

Are you certain this error isn't being thrown by the PHP shell script itself?

    Yes I am positive...

I had the support company who created the application take a look, they determined that the script was functioning properly but that exim was throwing the error.

They said that they were going to do some research to see why exim was doing this so I figured I would post it here just in case someone was familiar with the problem or something similar.
