Would it be possible to update the dnsonly build so that it remains compatabile with current builds? You package BIND, which is free software, but do not allow us to diversify our DNS networks per RFC recommendations because we can not modify c-panel internals.

You make a lot of money, you can fix dnsonly. I'm getting very, very tired of how lazy and shotty this product is becoming. Please fix it, or don't be surprised when a completely free GPL3 version of your software is released. I'd like to avoid doing that, but will.

Please don't direct me to a bugzilla, please don't direct me to another forum, I am a paying customer, I pay you money. Please install dnsonly for yourselves, and fix it until it works in a way that can be reproduced. I am not an employee of your company, its not up to me (or anyone else here) to find and fix your numerous bugs, you do not produce free software, you capitalize on it.

    Kindly,
    --Tim

Not the time nor the place

    Hi Tim,
I actually don't use DNSOnly but to be honest this is not the place for your message. I suggest you contact CPANEL Support directly.

You have worded your message in such a way that it completely directed to CPANEL and by posting it here the best you can achieve is a stunning brouhaha.

As this is by no means an official method of support I can best suggest that you contact CPANEL directly.
    Regards
    NerdZoLL

DNSOnly will be rebuilt once cPanel 11 reaches stable.

    Very unstable.

He is referring to Stage 2.

DNS Only should receive an update around 2015.

We run DNSOnly boxes with Cpanel11, and have no problems with them - even using customised high-security Named conf files.

Yes, you are a paying customer, and part of what you are paying for is cPanel support. If you are having problems with the DNSOnly build and integrating it with other servers, open a support ticket and let the guys take a look at it - all my experiences with cPanel support have been excellent, and I am yet to find something they cannot fix promptly.

We are evaluating the building and publishing process for DNSOnly as in the past it was very convoluted, which is one of the reasons it was updated so seldom. The complexity is due to the uniqueness of the DNSonly product: it is a subset of cPanel. With all the changes made to cPanel for version 11, we need to examine what goes into the DNSonly system, perform testing and make the entire, overall process easier to maintain.

In other words: we're working on it, but no ETA. Getting the first cPanel 11 Stable build published did make room to raise the priority however.

And no, 2015 is far too liberal. I would say 2010 at the latest :D

I haven't used dnsonly in a month or two, but I had it running with CP11 quite well indeed. There were no (major) issues that were Cp related at all.

DNSonly has had the same bugs in it for over a year now with no resolve on many of them. Even after being out as long as it has and as long as cPanel has the DNS system doesn't maintain any form of RDNS. You are better off building a good Bind server and just letting your cPanel servers be secondaries that update real servers.

Yes, DNS-Only has been released on in the cPanel 11 base and it fixes several issues and compatibility problems.

I was under the impression this was still not yet ready for prime time. Am I mistaken?

This has been out for a couple weeks now and it appears to be rather stable and works much better with servers running cPanel 11.

I used DNSONLY-BETA on a CentOS 4.x few months ago and works fine. It was the version based on cPanel 10. You can even add plugings to it (like csf). I don't know what is the status of the beta version now.

That version has been replaced with cPanel DNS-Only based off cPanel/WHM 11.

I am facing a peculiar problem, on one of the dnsonly server bind is failing regularly, and since there is no in builtin monitoring, restart automigically, and email notification system, I was wondering what to do. I was reading about SIM and it had been advised not to use it on cPanel servers.

    Any suggestion?
