    I am running the cpbackup to a remote server the funny thing is the servers ftp service is always up and cpbackup starts to transfers my sites and suddenly it gives this error:

    Net::FTP: Unexpected EOF on command channel at /scripts/cpbackup line 394
    Can't call method "login" on an undefined value at /scripts/cpbackup line 396, <
    PWCACHEENT> line 38.

    Can anyone tell me what this error means?

    Thank you

    Well its trying to login on an undefined value, like it says, so for some reason either FTPUSER or FTPPASS is null or not set.

    I think it pulls this from the conf file, did you set your user and pass? are there any preceeding spaces?

    I'm having the same problem... WHM has the FTP info, and I even re-entered the info and saved it, and it still gives the exact same error:

    Can't call method "login" on an undefined value at /scripts/cpbackup line 399, <PWCACHEENT> line 40.

    Folowing are the /script/cpbackup line 398,399,400

    Code:
     my $ftp = Net::FTP->new("$ftphost", Debug => 1,
                                              Passive => $ftppassive);
            $ftp->login("$ftpuser",$ftppass);
    as pshepperd said it requires valid ftp username and password...and also check the availability of ftp destination.

    Have you entered that information into WHM backup???

    I have the FTP info in WHM and it has been working for many months. HOWEVER... you are correct on the availability of the FTP destination. I have no idea why, but my co-location provider's backup server is no longer reachable on the Ethernet segment! I should have checked that, but I assumed that the error had nothing to do with the FTP server itself, but some sort of script problem.

    I'm checking with the co-lo provider, and will report back later.

    Strange that in ALL the threads on this particular error (there are many of them on this board) that nobody suggested trying to FTP into the FTP backup server manually via command line to see if the server is even working!

    There, now I've done it, so future generations will know... :)

    And the fix is what?

    Can anyone from cPanel make a comment on this... I see this topic rampant throughout the forums and no one officially comments on behalf of cPanel.

    Support guys?

    If you want cPanel to support you, open a ticket. That is the correct way to get support. This is a user-to-user forum, and works quite well. But, ultimately, if you can't get support in this forum, you should be opening a ticket with cPanel support.
