are both domains on the same server? than you should use parked domain feature
    in cpanel

else, try adding this line in .htaccess (on old domain):

    Redirect / http://www.new-domain.com/

.htaccess method will work if the domain is working on the old server.

    Ping the old domain name.

Let me know, whether the olddomainname and newdomain are the same domain names on two differnt servers ???

How about using a plain old HTML redirect? Something simple like "Hey, we've moved... the new site is newdomain.com. You'll be taken there in 10 seconds, or click the link below"

LYTTEK, how would you do it when the site is showing page not found on the old server...i.e, the domain is down on the homepage...

    Go on, have a guess
Obviously you can only do that (html redirect) if the old site is still up - in exactly the same way that you can only use htaccess if the site is up - so both are valid options. However, if the old site is down, then you would have to move the domain to the new server and park it.

If the domain in question (files, databases, etc) were moved, as the original poster mentioned, but the old domain was still active, then it's possible by creating a single page with a redirect.

It was one option, based on the information given.

    html redirect

Does anyone have the html code for doing a simple redirect of a URL with a ? in it (affiliate link) I believe using onclick()

Cpanel is lost otherwise on a ? URL redirect.
