I created several test accounts and if y try to log using Outlook it doesnt log into the mailbox..

It can find the POP server, SMTP server..

If i go to Outlook and create the account.. and run Test Account..

it Checks OK every task but when it comes to POP:

Log onto Incomig Mail Server (POP)

stays there and dont do nothing...

If i go to Send Receive.. the account ask me for login and pass (even if are the right ones) and doenst log in.. shows this error:

Task 'mail.thedomain.com- Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR Authentication failed (bad password?)'

Any ideas about that??

For the test account, are you using username+domain.ext as the username? Also, are you using the password for that specific email account?

    By POP or SMTP?

I know a large percentage of ISPs prefer you use their own SMTP server rather than that of your own server.

well the thing is that i have other accounts set up ( different servers ) and that ones work with POP.. just new server is the one giving me problems... dont know if might be some setup at WHM that im missing or some mail misconfigurataion..

if it works with other accounts ( at other server ) so i dont think that the ISP is the problem..

    humm...

    ideas??

Good point. I would recommend submitting a support request with your cPanel licensing provider at this point as that would likely yield the fastest and most accurate response.

Feel free to monitor this thread in case someone else has a possible solution for you :).

I have a rash of password issues for pop3 and ftp coming in on a server we advanced to V11

Do not have any resolution as that server is now back on V10, there does seem to be something going on however..

Odd question maybe - but are you running this on a Virtuozzo VPS? If so check your /etc/xinet.d/ for POP commands, in the default CentOS template you can get it has a POP3/POP3S server installed - disable it, restart xinet.d and restart cPanel's mail services.

Know this thread is a bit old - but it saved my rear. I was suffering from this problem and disabling the above items worked! Thanks for taking the time to offer this assistance. :D

thanks alot! I had the same issue. I was trying to solve pop3 connection problem for weeks. I tried searching forums, but nothing until I saw this post.

So if anyone has pop3 connection (wrong password) issue under VPS, mrcbrown's method is the solution. If I understood right centos default pop3 was working, while cpanel's own pop3 server acts as if it is working. This explains wrong password & account issues, because default pop3 server has no idea about accounts...

    Cheers!
