Squirrel Mail

What about integrating:

???

I've already made a request to cpanel. If anyone else agrees, please make yourselves heard (unless you have a better suggestion).

Well,

if each cpanel owner gets 25 Customers for example on each server, calculate number of customers that are using CPANEL in world...

you propebly dont want to risk this:

[qoute on their site]
These days some sysadmins configure mailservers (your mailservers) so that once an email is read, it's automatically deleted. Which means once you log in with Mailreader, you're mails are gone. Forever. And there's nothing I can do to get them back. I'm not gonna take Mailreader offline because of this, but I am warning you about the possibility to lose all your mail.
[/qoute on their site]

NeoMail was a great job, and now we have problems with it... so they should find something better and real complete, after testing it they can post it to servers...

and that will take a time obviously...

I tried so many of them so far...
not found one yet :)

Squirrelmail requires IMAP

Programs like SquirrelMail and JawMail (sourceforge.net/projects/jawmail) are great, but require IMAP on the server. And sadly, CPanel doesn't currently support IMAP. :(

What's wrong with UebiMiau?

UebiMiau works pretty well for me and my clients.

I like how easy it is to customize (if you have a bit of PHP knowledge). I've evaluated well over a dozen webmail systems (just POP3 ones, not IMAP) and I found that I liked UebiMiau best of all.

The customizations I made to make it better:
- set the session timeout to 30 minutes
- changed quota
- changed the HTML so the table goes full-screen (instead of fixed width)
- removed the cat :-p
- Changed the word UebiMiau to &WebMail&

Drawbacks are relatively minor
- cant change the from address
- mailbox full means you cant compose new mail until you delete some existing mail (workaround: increase mailbox size to 20MB or more)

To customize, edit UebiMiau's config.php
$idle_timeout = 30; //minutes
$quota_limit = 20480; // in KB, eg. 2048 Kb = 2MB
(good idea to change user's actual mailbox also)

Not wanting to start an argument or anything, I'm just curious about other peoples experience with UebiMiau. IMO it's not too bad.

why stick with Ubimieu?

why all such customisations?

when MailReader works so fine...

have u thought of your resold domains? how do they access that configuration php file of Ubimieu?

Why taking all these trobles when simpler and easy things are available.

Anyway i have installed long back Mailreader and all my people can use it without any problem / customisation. Try it at http://mail.asiaonbiz.com

thanks:)

Some interesting questions from &mailreader& users and valuable answers from its author ;):

I try to delete emails but they won't go away?

Log out. That button is there for a reason. There has been a few cases where deleting hasn't worked at all, don't know what's causing it.

I just lost all my emails, I _really_ need them back!

Tough.

I lost my address book, what happened?

Mailreader has a file locking problem which causes the configuration files to disappear every now and then.

Frightening ...

frightening yes, i was too... but i wondered how one good web hosting provider uses that (he doesn't use Cpanel but some other Control Panel with billing integrated).
They had test area where i tested.

That motivated me to try, after testing i released to public and for last 8 months, neither i had any problem nor any of my customers.

Though i agree there are many better solutions. Last time i also suggested one.

What i liked in MailReader is complete, compact, easy to install and easy to use.

Now that cpanel has IMAP..

I *HIGHLY* suggest using SquirrelMail now that cpanel supports IMAP. Personally, on my server.. I have SquirrelMail installed such that each user (aka.. every domain) has their own customizable login screen, colors, plugins, etc. I've configured it to run as that user, not as any system user (aka.. nobody) so it should be relatively secure.

SquirrelMail is VERY easy to modify, as it supports plugins and the source-code is available :) Cpanel could easily setup a basic configuration which allows administrators to add plugins which would not be overwritten or modified at the next 'upcp'.

FWIW, I've been working on getting JawMail working with CPanel. I haven't worked with it since the 5.x update which changed the way that add-on domains work, but I suspect it will be okay. (famous last words, certainly).

The JawMail developer has been really great about helping iron out some issues that cropped up with integrating this webmail program with CPanel. I thought we were just about done when a weird PHP error cropped up... and I haven't figured it out just yet.

Personally I think JawMail is a far better solution than SquirrelMail, but then I'm probably biased. http://jawmail.sourceforge.net/
