just noticed this the other day and was wondering why port 995 is used and what for?
Code:
cppop - accepting on port 110 and 995
never noticed this port being utilized before? does it need to be used and what for now?

TIA,
Mickalo

Port 995 is for Exchange Server supports POP3 over SSL, to be exact. Any server with CentOS, typically, has the following ports on localhost:

Code:
(The 1642 ports scanned but not shown below are in state: closed)
PORT STATE SERVICE
1/tcp open tcpmux
21/tcp open ftp
22/tcp open ssh
25/tcp open smtp
26/tcp open unknown
53/tcp open domain
80/tcp open http
110/tcp open pop3
111/tcp open rpcbind
143/tcp open imap
443/tcp open https
465/tcp open smtps
631/tcp open ipp
783/tcp open hp-alarm-mgr
953/tcp open rndc
993/tcp open imaps
995/tcp open pop3s
3306/tcp open mysql

thx's. We are using Centos 3.8 currently.

is there a procedure to setup a SSL connections, on the server, for POP accounts so they can use the SSL 995 port if needed ? What sort of a certificate needs to be installed and where ?

thx's
