    hi,

wondering if someone know what can be the cause of the following error when you try to receive email in outlook:

Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC90) : 'Your incoming (POP3) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: -ERR Service not available (server error)'

    thanx in advance!

    Go on, have a guess
Is cppop running on the server? If so, then on the clients PC:

    telnet hostname.server.com 110

replacing hostname.server.com with your servers hostname and see what shows up.

    same problem

I am having hte same problem. I have complete control over my server. Its been recently set up, and DNS records have been changed recently. I can send mail to my accounts, I can read the mail using webmail, but the POP connection looks like it just gets dropped.

I tried to telnet to the server in question from my dos prompt and it just sits there for a little while and then goes to the prompt again. I tried it to another server of mine and I get a POP prompt. My outlook sends and receives emails from other accounts on several servers just fine.

I'm also getting this exact error message too, with Outlook Express.

When I telnet to the server on port 110, I get

-ERR Service not available (server error)

When I telnet from other locations, I get the normal POP startup messages.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

Well well well ... the plot thickens.

Restarting pop3d (the replacement for cppop) via
"service courier-imap restart" fixed the problem. Note we're using the new upgraded mail system, ie pop3d rather than cppop.

I am getting bad passwords returned on all the pop3 accounts hosted on my domain save one, which seems to work just fine (which I find rather odd). I can access through imap, but anything pop3 is a no go.

I've tried restarting the server, restarting exim, restarting uv-imap, restarting cppop, etc. to no avail.

This is a really bad time for this to happen too, I just moved my customers over to this server with the promise that it would be more stable than the old one...

Edit: Found a solution for my problem in another thread
