I just recompiled apache/php with some extra modules like suhosin, mod_security and suphp by using easyapache.
Do i have to configure mod_security and suhosin manually? I ask this because i don't see any rules loaded into mod_security?

Cpanel is a pretty secure thing, but is it needed to harden apache, mysql, ftp and other standard installed software by cpanel?

Yes you need to manually configure those and I would recommend dropping the default ruleset in lieu for something better like gotroot's set.
