I'm baffled that cPanel installs the outdated 8.4x version of Postgresql. I'm running Centos 6.6 here and the latest for Redhat/Centos I believe is 9.3.

Can someone provide a simplified, safe way to upgrade PG in a production environment?

This doesn't help at all to be honest
