    /scripts/installpostgres

    Answer the options when it asks. Then go to WHM and select the new link for configuring Postgres in the first section in the menus. You will need to create the conf file and then click the link again and set a password.

    hi,

    Now i installed the posrgresSQL and can see the icon in all of my clents cpanel but am unable to add any postgresSQL database. It is saying that the database has been added but when i go back i can see only blank. The error am getting when connected thru putty is:

    "root" execution of the PostgresSQL server is not permitted.

    The server must be started under an unpriviledged user id to prevent a
    possible system security compromise. See the documentation for more
    information on how to properly start the server.

    Can anyone guide me in this regard?

    From another forum:
    ==============================
    login as root
    su postgresql
    service postgresqld start or service postgresql start

    You can most likely find out what user postgresql runs as by doing: slocate postgresql & then ls -la <path-to-postgresql-binary>

    When i configure in whm the msg coming up is:

    Setting up Postgres Config...Done
    Reloading Postgres...postmaster successfully signaled
    Done

    The Postgres config install has been completed.

    After that i restarted the PostgreSQL Server

    Attempting to restart postgres
    Waiting for postgres to restart.... . . . . . . . . . . finished.

    postgres status postgres 9086 2.0 0.1 10460 1968 ? S 02:52 0:00 /usr/bin/postmaster -p 5432

    (u observe here that the msg restarted ok is not coming up)

    and then when i go to any client cpanel which is hosted on this server still am unable to add postgreSQL

    Kavitha,
    There must be some problem with the install that you have done. I just installed it on a server and tested it out. What theme does the control panel that you searched for the pgsql use ? Change the control panel theme to 'x' and then try.

    Else you need to remove the rpm's :
    ========================
    rh-postgresql-python-7.3.6-1
    rh-postgresql-7.3.6-1
    rh-postgresql-devel-7.3.6-1
    rh-postgresql-libs-7.3.6-1
    rh-postgresql-server-7.3.6-1
    ========================
    and then repeat the whole process again. Let me know of the progress. Probably changing the theme will sure help.

    All the best :)

    Already my cpanel theme is cPanel X v2.3.0 only. You want me to remove postgreSQL from my server and re-install it?

    i did a reinstall of the postgresql and then checked the control panel of a user at http://ip:2082 . I could not find the postgresql icon at http://ip:2082/frontend/x/index.html. Then i installed it again.. the icon appeared again. This means that there is some problem with the installation that you have done.

    and hence i will suggest a reinstall if possible. The steps to remove are:
    =========================
    rpm -e rh-postgresql-server
    rpm -e rh-postgresql-7.3.6-1
    rpm -e rh-postgresql-devel-7.3.6-1
    =========================
    and then you can do /scripts/installpostgres

    hi,

    When i type the above commands in my shell am getting this

    root@afterburner [~]# rpm -e rh-postgresql-server
    error: package rh-postgresql-server is not installed
    root@afterburner [~]# rpm -e rh-postgresql-7.3.6-1
    error: package rh-postgresql-7.3.6-1 is not installed
    root@afterburner [~]# rpm -e rh-postgresql-devel-7.3.6-1
    error: package rh-postgresql-devel-7.3.6-1 is not installed

    Now whether i can re-install it?

    do as follows:
    ===============
    1 ==> rpm -qa | grep postgre
    ===============
    This will list the packages that relates to the postgresql.

    Now take these packages and remove them with :
    ==================
    2 ==> rpm -e <file>
    ===================

    If '1' returned no values; then the postgresql was not installed on your server; and you can run /scripts/installpostgres else you can run the same after the uninstallation mentioned via '2'.

    I see you've got it working, but just for your information, the postgresql user is "postgres" and the service is "postgresql"
