    Hi,

I recent started using a host using cPanel.

Apparently when you create an addon domain, it does the following:

    http://seconddomain.firstdomain.com
    http://www.firstdomain.com/seconddomain.com/

    1) How can I prevent this from happening? I don't want to just 301 redirect...I want there not to be the subdomain and the subdirectory.
    2) Why does it do that?
    3) Also...can an addon domain be on a different IP?

As far I know you can't prevent this. In httd.conf, addon domain points to sub-domain's document root. Not sure about third question.

So on a traditional shared host I wouldn't be able to fix that, but on a VPS I'd probably have the ability to modify httpd.conf right? Or it wouldn't be that simple...cPanel would just redo it each time?

Yes, you can modify httpd.conf if you have root access of your VPS. But why don't you create individual domains instead of Addon on VPS (if you go for it)?

I'm aware that I CAN modify httpd.conf on VPS, but would cpanel just undo whatever changes I make?
