The notification mail that the cpanel backup has been completed is not working correctly ....
It doesn't showup on any of the maillogs.. Tried a forced upcp to different versions - stable, edge etc...

Still have the problem.. Anyone came across a similar issue ?

Hey, now that you mention it, I haven't got that notice for the longest time. I usually check manually on my remote server for the files, so I guess I hadn't thought about it. But I do remember getting it in the past.

I don't see anywhere in Configure Backup to specify a notice. Is it someplace else?

I was mentioning about the notification for the backup taken by users from cpanel ( not whm ). There is a tab to enter the mail id to which the notification should be sent to. Usually, a notification mail will be sent to the email id, once the backup is completed. Unfortunately, it's not happening now. :-(

Regarding the backups taken from WHM, I think, the notification will be sent to the contact mail id. ...

    Still no news about this?
Has anyone reported it on bugzilla?

This is very annoying since I have to login to my backup server every week to make sure backups were made.

Could it be a corrupt config file on the server ?

backup stopped to work correctly in the night of 05 - 06. february

load is since then at 1.00+ ( normally i have loads at about 0.25 )

tried to kill all cpbackup processes now getting

    root 8066 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? ZN Feb06 0:00 [cpbackup <defunct>]

I had the same thing with the server load shooting up after upgrading to cpanel current, but only on one server, the others were unaffected.

The server affected suffered from higher than normal server load, increased numbers of processes, massive increases on the iowait. clamav stopped updating and backup failed to work properly.

Changes in the httpd.conf file sorted the server load but clamav and backup still needs to be fixed.

load is now 3 constant - i disabled automatic backups but i am not able to kill the pkgacct processes

already did renice -20 - but nothing changed

the process kswap - is not in the process list anymore :-|

thus the load is at 3 at minimum - it does not affect the performance

    any ideas?

I just resolved some similar problems you guys are having with my server. We have only run Stable version of Cpanel though.

I found a bunch of pkgacct processes keeping my server load up. Some of them running for weeks.

When I killed them, I had the defunct process too. I found that I could "cat" the status file in the /proc/<pid> directory to find the parent process and kill the parent. Then the defunct processes will go away.

Each process ID number running should be listed in the /proc directory. You can cd into that directory, you'll see a bunch of files, one of them is status. Cat that file, and you will see a line with PPid, this is the parent process ID. You should be able to kill it as long as it's not number 1

That will clear out your defunct processes.

On the backups... We were using a local NFS server. The backups seemed to be fine for a long time, then a few boxes were having these problems. After scratching our heads for a few weeks, one of the admins found out the NFS server's DNS server was forked up. Once he fixed the resolv.conf the NFS connections stopped timing out. Every server went back to normal backups, and we also found every server connected to the NFS box was experiencing slow or intermittent NFS connections. The resolv.conf fixed this. We also added the servers connected to the hosts file for assurance.
