Problem with password protect directories

    A site on the server is having issues with password protected direcotories. When no password protection is set you can view files in the directory fine. When a password is setup using the "password protect directories" applet the pages witihn that folder are no longer accessable. Instead you get an error 403 page and the following error in the error log.

    With then the file path to the .htaccess file within that folder. Permissions look ok on the .htaccess file as they are owned by the user/group of the website and the file itself has rw-r--r-- permissions.

    usually this error show when you have .htaccess or some missconfiguration in up folders.check owners:groups and his rights in all upper folder and also check it's for existance any other .htaccess files.
