    Hi,
I try to renew my SSL certificate, I wanted to generate a 2048 bit CSR, but Cpnale doesn't give me the option, and the generated code is to short, therefore I cannot re-key my certificate.
    Please help!
    Thank You!

    Hello,

I am sorry to see that you are having an issue with your SSL re-key. I just wanted to make sure that I understand correct. You are generating the CSR with the 2048 option and its not coming out correctly? Or you dont see the option to select 2048? Please let me know so I can get you fixed up. cPanel will generate 2048, it is in a dropdown box at the bottom of the page.

Main >> SSL/TLS >> Generate a SSL Certificate and Signing Request

    Thank you,
    Matthew Curry

I have the same problem. No way for me to change to a 2048 bit key. Now I have an expired SSL license and no way to reactivate it.

I currently have -- WHM 11.23.2 cPanel 11.23.6-S27698 (according to the upper right corner in WHM)

    Please help.

    Thanks

Upgrading to the latest version of cPanel/WHM for your build will bring you to version 11.24, which does support 2048-bit keys.

Unfortunately, cPanel will not let me upgrade. I guess my license is expired or something, even though I purchased the lifetime license. Have never really gotten a clear answer on that.

Is there a config file I can edit in lieu of updating my system? I really need to get this SSL license thing fixed asap.

You can email cs@cpanel.net. They can clarify that situation for you. If you have already done this, please PM me your ticket number so I can follow up internally.

I am not aware of any configuration values that could adjust a cPanel/WHM server that only supports 1024-bit keys to accept 2048-bit keys.

I'm haven't the same problem and i'm running 11.24... in WHM I'm able to re-generate 2048 CSR for users but in Cpanel users are not available to select 2048 there is no drop on the Cpanel end.

The key size is selectable when generating the RSA private key, as seen at the following menu path in cPanel:
cPanel: Security >> SSL/TLS Manager >> Private Keys (KEY)

To generate a 2048-bit CSR, first generate the 2048-bit private key, then generate the CSR. The minimum version needed is 11.24.4.

I tested and confirmed this method works using the latest EDGE build at the time of writing (11.25.0-EDGE_40447). As the feature for selecting a larger key size was introduced in 11.24.4, if your system meets this minimum version number then the same procedure should also work in your installed build.
