I'm trying to backup my cpanel accounts to a Samba mounted file system. This system is very inefficient because the cpanel backup script attempts to rsync all the files to the destination then tar them. This is very slow over ethernet.

Is there a way for cpanel backup script can rsync the data to a specified folder before taring and saving to destination folder?

Is there another script that can do backups in such a manner for cpanel?

I need the rsync data to reside on the local system for speed and permission purposes. Files that have chmod 222 or 000 will copy to the Samba share, but will not be readable or delete. This causes errors and partial backups.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.
