    I have checked all threads related to problems with RNDC in your forum, but I was unable to find solutions to fix the problem.

    It caused named to crash. I am getting a rndc: connect: connection refused everytime I try to start named server.

    I have added all of the necessary entries in named.conf including:

    key "key" {
    algorithm hmac-md5;
    secret "XXXXXXXXX";
    };

    controls {
    inet 127.0.0.1 allow { localhost; } keys { "key"; };
    };

    etc. etc.

    I am still getting connection refused errors. I tried to contact Burst.NET to fix it. Unfortunately their support is non-existant. Oh well...

    Can you please assist?

    Thank you in advance.

    We\'re having the exact same problem on one box (fotunately without any clients). Anyone knows a solution to this? :(

    Sep 1 12:37:12 servername named[31704]: zone configuration for \'.\' failed: file not found
    Sep 1 12:37:12 servername named[31704]: loading configuration: failure
    Sep 1 12:37:12 servername named[31704]: exiting (due to fatal error)

    ok that appears not to be a rndc error, ndc is used to pipe command to named rather than doing them at a system level (killall -HUP named)

    Sep 1 12:37:12 servername named[31704]: zone configuration for \'.\' failed: file not found

    I would check your named.conf for a spare .

    try backing up your named.conf and simply using a empty named.conf to start up named with

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/named start

    if that works try to fix that above error in named.conf
    Mail me the conf file if you still have problems and ill take a look at it

    Kiwi,

    Have you got a file called named.ca or similar (starting with named) in your /var/named directory? It looks like your root zone file may be missing. That\'s the section in named.conf that says something similar to:

    zone \".\" IN {
    type hint;
    file \"named.ca\";
    };

    Stay cool. ;)

    Replaced 2 files from another server ...named.ca and named.local
