Problems with setting up an account in WHM

Hi

Trying to setup a vps, we've spent today installing cPanel/WHM and have setup a child nameserver on our domain and set the nameserver in WHM. Our host only provided us with one free ip address so that's what we're going with at the moment.

We've set the nameserver on the domain and setup a package and an account in WHM but whenever you go to the domain (or try to ping the domain) it times out. If you ping the nameserver it gets a response.

Is there something really obvious that we're missing?
