Problems with Webmail/Horde

    Hello,

Horde is creating lots of problems, particulary it increases the server load a lot ... :(
This happens when any user whose inbox ( or spam/sent folder ) is huge ( say > 8MB) tries
to access webmail. Load just shoots up to 10~20.
I've noticed this for horde a lot, may be because most of them uses horde...

Is there any fix for this solution??

Converting to maildir should solve this.

i'm thinking about doing the conversion on my servers, but i've found no succes stories yet. No horror stories either, but still... has anyone tried the conversion and was succesful?

    Is it reversible?

What happens, if for example i want to move an account between two servers, one with maildir and one with mailbox?

You can reverse the transition, however if you copy from a maildir server to a mbox (old style) server, it will not copy the mail.

We will not be supporting mbox in the future so this should not be a major problem as all server will be switching to maildir.

But maildirconversion isnt working for me...
I used the following link to activate

    http://myip:2086/scripts2/maildirconversion

I tried creating new accounts but its still using the old mbox format

    Server Info

    Code:
    # cat /usr/local/cpanel/version
    10.2.0-STABLE_83
    # cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Linux release 9 (Shrike)

    Go on, have a guess
Maildir support isn't in STABLE. You'd have to at least go to RELEASE.

    Another problem found ...
I tried maildir in one of my servers and i found that neomail isn't working anymore :(
Actually it isn't displayed by webmaillogin page ...

Neomail won't support maildir format or what?
Checking webmaillogin.html page, i found the following

    Code:
    <cpanelif !,$CONF{'maildir'} && !,$CONF{'skipneomail'} && !=0,$CPDATA{'FEATURE-NEOMAIL'}>
                <td align="center" valign="bottom" width="200">

seems neomail is skipped by webmaillogin page ...

Support for neomail is in the process of being removed. It will disappear in version 11 with or without maildir. It might be replaced with sqwebmail, but that depends on demand

    Since using the maildirconversion script, we are unable to manage the folders via horde. when we try and create folders we get an error like the one given below;

The folder "mailsentfldr" was not created. This is what the server said: Invalid mailbox name.

has any one else encounted this?

    Any fix suggestions?

removing of neomail doesnt worry me, but I dont know if sqwebmail will do any diffrence..

Instead I would like to see some webmail in cpanel that has a nice visual layout, like in hotmail for example. Most users are after easy-of-use and nice layout, instead of hundreds of features.

Also possibility to do your own templates for the webmail / branding would be great. Cpanel could put up their own webmail, right? :)

Since we did the Maildir conversion, I have some clients having problems login into Horde.
    They were previous neomail users.
What is happening is when the login to :2095 and the Choose a Email program , Horde or Squirel , They click on Horde and it keeps asking them to log in over and over.
Its not happening to everyone , just a handfull of clients
    Really strange

After running this scripts ALL emails in folders outside the inbox are gone and I'm unable to create new folders and delete emails.

"The folder "trash" was not created. This is what the server said: Invalid mailbox name."

Also tried using the script to revert this installation but it didn't help at all...

Yes, I also had some problems like that but managed to solve them. After the transition to maildirs, it appears that subfolders that were not created with squirrelmail do not appear automatically. In squirrelmail you need to go to Options-Folder Options and edit the Sent, Drafts and Trash folders. Also at the bottom you can see a list of all folders created, and you can add whatever you need.

    --Start Edit--

Problem below SOLVED - just restarted cpanel (service cpanel restart), then cppop disappeared, then after a while chkservd detected there si no pop3 service and restarted it and all got fine :D . I suspect that cppop did not get killed earlier when maildir conversion started/finished and then the courier pop3 could not be started instead.

    --End Edit--

Unfortunately I experienced another problem: Imap works flowlessly (webmail and through Thunderbird), smtp is ok, and mails can be sent (using smtp authentication). but mails cannot be received:

    Code:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'blue.xxxx.com', Server: 'blue.xxxx.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot find a valid mailbox for office', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
It seems that not curier's pop3 daemon is running, but rather the old cppop:

    Code:
    telnet> open localhost 110
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
    Connected to localhost (127.0.0.1).
    Escape character is '^]'.
    +OK POP3 blue [cppop 20.0] at [127.0.0.1]
pop3 works neither with converted accounts, nor with brand new accounts. I guess I will enter this in bugzilla.
