ProFTP bogging down the server

Hi, we are using ProFtp right now on one of our servers and it seems to bogging down our server....causes system resources to go way up. When I kill FTP all together in service manager the cpu goes back down to normal. I have read other posts in here about this same problem but have yet to find a solution. We are thinking of changing to PureFtp instead and was wondering if anyone has anything that we should know before trying it...such as problems or other issues, or if you have a solution for fixing the proftp issus that would be great...thanks in advance for help and info.
