    I keep getting this error when trying to restart proftp:

    root@alpha [~]# service proftpd restart
    /sbin/service: line 68: 10825 Hangup env -i LANG=$LANG PATH=$PATH TERM=$TERM "${SERVICEDIR}/${SERVICE}" ${OPTIONS}

    And if I try this, I get a similar error:

    root@alpha [~]# /etc/init.d/proftpd restart
    Hangup

    Anyone know why? I've tried reinstalling it and switching back and forth to pureftp, with no luck.

    Go on, have a guess
    You cannot use either to restart proftpd. You need to issue:

    /etc/init.d/proftpd stop
    /etc/init.d/proftpd start

    Any other way and you will get the Hangup.

    How about PureFTP. Can you use/run the same commands?
