    Hi all !

I'm running a newly installed cPanel / WHM box and I'm facing some problems with the use of certain kerberos-enabled ftp client under linux :

When using such a client, our customers are left with the following error messages :

    -----
220 ProFTPD 1.2.9 Server (ProFTPD) [servername]
    500 AUTH not understood
    504 AUTH GSSAPI unsupported
KERBEROS_V4 rejected as an authentication type
    Name (domain.com:user): user
    500 AUTH not understood
    Login failed.
    -----
customer OS : Mandrake linux 9.x
    ftp client package : ftp-client-krb5

Now, I tried it myself, and could login using plaintext authentification (using command line options and the "user" command), but the client defaults to kerberos and forgets to fall back in case it isn't supported.

I think that the best way to remove this problem is to recompile my proftpd and add kerberos support. But I would like to know the right way to do it without breaking this fix on every WHM/cPanel update...

Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks in advance for your comments !

    Best regards

I fixed this issue by switching to pure-ftpd and back to proftpd...
