Recently a server of mine has been getting sporadic high loads due to ProFTPd. I do a "top" command and see nothing but Proftpd processes and a 100+ load. I have to restart proftpd to bring the load back down.

Now, on the server there exists hundreds of user accounts. Each account has its own log file, so there's no central place to look up who is accessing what. How do I find out what or who is causing all of this proftpd load? Any ideas?

    Go on, have a guess
IIRC you can use ftpwho with proftpd. You could also try switching to pure-ftpd which is meant to use fewer server resources.
