I'm sick of cpanel's built in backup system. There's been no decent update to it in the last 4 years and feature requests for tiered backup times on account, backup of config files via FTP and faster compression seem to be brushed over. I pay enough for Cpanel with over 6 servers and more soon to get a decent backup system.

I keep hearing about R1Soft as a backup solution. I'm willing to give it a go. What exactly does it do? Does it cause much load on the server?

Can it restore an entire server to a new server easily?

Any advice with using it for cpanel?

Sorry to disappoint, but rIsoft will annoy you even faster. The new 3.x version is rooted and you will be wasting your time fixing it. The idea is good, though. We were using it and abandoned due to daily issues and failures. Have you looked at rsnapshot solution? It only doesn't do encryption, apart from this does the same via CLI.
