Recently my host told me the they had shut off public ssl until Cpanel can patch the way it counts bandwidth. By turning on mod_userdir which is what your talking about, it does not count bandwidth which is a major security concern. Is this valid or is it just for this host. Thanks.

    Hello :)

It is true that accessing a site via mod_userdir circumvents the proper bandwidth accounting systems. This option is primary intended to allow temporary access to a website. If you require SSL access, you should consider obtaining a dedicated IP address from your hosting provider. That will allow you to install a free self-signed SSL certificate for your domain name.

    Thank you.
