Is it a fair assumption the only draw-back to using Pure-ftpd is the lack of bandwidth monitoring?

Has anyone developed a fix for this?

How do you monitor clients that utilize Pure-ftp to transfer files, etc.?

Are there any other concerns/issues before switching from Pro-ftp? Regards.

*bump*

(I'm looking for a solution to this, as well)

Thanks!

So anything transferred when using proftpd is not calculated towards the user's allotted bandwidth?

Yep that's about it.
Cpanel developers sure could insert a workaround so that this traffic could be registered in the user's bandwidth.
I beleive a simple script to read /var/log/messages, would allow grabbing information on Pure-ftpd transfer activity.

That would be about the only reason why I wouldn't want to use pureftp.. Monitoring ftp bandwidth is a must espcially when you allow anonymous ftp and ftp accounts to be created..

Considering the number of different formats pure-ftpd supports, couldn't cpanel just make it output to a single log in clf fomat prefixed with the virtual host, and have a script parse it to clfs for each domain/user ?
Anyone have comments on this method?

I got an email back from CPanel saying that they're passing the feature request on... Now it's only a matter of time!

Yeah whati've learned is that if you actual take the time to put in a feature or bug request they will take action for it.

Any update on this? It's been a while since the support team got back to me about the feature request.

I looked at proftpd and tried to see how it keeps track of bandwidth and I have no idea how anyone could possible duplicate this using pure-ftpd.

with pure-ftpd offering common-log format like apache, wouldn't the idea being offering the same bandwidth-tracking as apache?

yeah but I think proftpd logs each user separately according to their domain.
that's a config issue, and even so, so does apache, so having loghandler process pure-ftpd logs should not be such a huge challenge...
Of course, maybe cpanel just wants to have more small servers(they recommend pure-ftpd on heavily loaded boxes) but get licensing per-server, large or small...
