I have changed my servers over to pureftp as advised. It now seems that the pureftp server cannot accept files greater than 2gig. The connection is broken and I get a socket write error.
Proftp worked fine with files greater than 2gig.
Does anyone know a solution to this?

    # Enable virtual quotas. The first number is the max number of files.
    # The second number is the max size of megabytes.
    # So 1000:10 limits every user to 1000 files and 10 Mb.

    #Quota 1000:10

edit the above at /etc/pure-ftpd.conf and restart ftp.
