PureFTP keeps downloading file

Here is a strange one. I just switched to PureFTP from ProFTP for various reasons I won't get into here. I am now experiencing really weird behaviour.

When I download a file using an FTP client the download does not stop. It keeps on going and going. A 5 meg file suddenly became a 45 meg file. (It would have kept on downloading unless I stopped the download manually) If I try it using a command line ftp app (from Windows or Linux) it works just fine. The file downloads properly.

Any ideas??

This could also be related to another problem I am experiencing with downloads slowing down to a near crawl. It starts off at the full speed of my connection but then drops down to a mere 2.7 kB/s. Again this only happens if I use a full featered FTP client. From a command line FTP (Windows or Linux) it works just fine.

I've tested and can exclude the network, the switch, the FTP server itself (both Pro and Pure exhibit the same problems).

Please help me figure this out. cPanel support seems to be washing their hands on this one. Not very ecourageing to say the least.

Thanks all!

That is because it sounds like client side problem.

What FTP program (and version) are you using? Have you tried; using another FTP client, using another machine?

I should have provided that info sorry. Yes, I have tried many various clients (TotalCommander's built in FTP client, CoreFTP, even used ProFTP's own client!) and customers each have their own clients and they are experiencing the same thing.

Disabled the firewall, tested other machines on the same network, the same switch, windows boxes other linux boxes, from various networks connecting to it, other services are all fine, etc., etc., etc.,....

I have looked high and low but nothing explains this behaviour. If it were to kill the connection it may be easier as the logs may show something but this is just a slowdown so there is no logging of the reason why.

I mean why would a command line FTP work any differently from a GUI based one?

It almost seems llike there is a tarpitting going on but we have nothing of the sort running on the server.

Any and I mean any suggestions are welcome.
