pureftpd authentication failures

I had troubles with proftpd on the server so nick installed pureftpd instead. Now recently pureftpd has gone nuts. It keeps on giving authentication failure for users even with their passwords correct.

any ideas ??

I have the same problem. Installed pure-ftp via WHM and now none of the users passwords seem to be working (or at least some that I know of aren't).

I think I'll just go and submit a support request via WHM.

Got the same problems few weeks back. Basically, none of the IPless account got authentication. Then I switched back. I would be interested how to fix this problem.

I was going to install Pure-ftpd, the advantages vs disadvantages make it seem worth installing.

I guess I will wait now until the bugs are ironed out.

Got the solution atleast works for me now.

under pureftpd, the username of any ftp user is [email protected]

e.g

ftp domain.com
username: [email protected]
password: password

Works fine on my server. Do let me know if it works for you.

I'll try it out later on and post the result. Bit strange that you have to use the full [email protected] though. I always found that to be one of the big advantages of CPanel over Ensim, as the ftp software Ensim uses also needs the [email protected] as the username on shared IP accounts.

EDIT: It works, now if I could only figure out how to change the main ftp account
password. It doesn't seem to change when you change the CPanel password anymore.

Try to run the script at /usr/local/cpanel/bin/ftpupdate

It helps.

Which FTP server you are using ? proftpd / pureftpd ? I had got a mail earlier from cpanel support that only in pureftpd it was neccessary to use user@domain, proftpd worked without it. You can also try to upgrade ur cpanel to the latest build and then check if it works.

I try something and i got a solution for this error, follow this steps:

If you are using proftpd, change to pure-ftpd in WHM.

SSH to server and do this commands:

killall proftpd
/etc/init.d/pure-ftpd stop
wget http://updates.cpanel.net/ftpservers/pure-ftpd/pure-ftpd-1.0.12-26cpanel.i386.rpm
rpm -e pure-ftpd-1.0.12-26cpanel
rpm -ivh pure-ftpd-1.0.12-26cpanel.i386.rpm
/scripts/ftpupdate

If some virtual ftp account dont work, just delete it and make it again, will work well.

I hope this help everybody in the same error condition.

A work around is restarting the pure-ftpd using the /etc/pure-ftpd.conf

In the same file you will find instructions how to do that.
