hello all, this is my first time at this forum and i have a question about making small changes to themeballs and then uploading them.

here is the situation...

i am the graphics person and so i use a Macintosh, and a Windows 2000 PC. i have cloned and downloaded a 'tar' themeball, and was able to extract it using WinZip.

after extraction i went through and made the necessary changes, mostly table color changes and such. when i was done i re-zipped the themeball and named it correctly as suggested on the cPanel site.

the problem is when i try to upload it the responce is that it cannot do it because the themeball is missing the 'login' page, but i've double checked the directory structure and its exaclty the same as i extracted it and the file is there.

i think it may be because i am not archiving the themeball as a true 'tar' archive. does anyone know how i can "TAR" an archive in Windows? or does anyone know what i might be doing wrong?

thanks for the assistance.

I don't know, but you don't have to do it that way. You can upload the theme manually into
/usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend
That's what I always do. Thanks again to dgbaker for that info.

hmm, okay i'll look into that.

but before i do that i want to make sure the cPanel themeball i'm uploading is being read correctly if at all.

does the cPanel theme have to be in the "TAR" format archive?

and if it does, does anyone know how to/or what application i can use to "TAR" files in the Windows enviroment?

thanks for your help so far casey.
