hello -- I'm developing a site that's using the DNS settings of the registrar pointing to the webhost's IP via A records and my Office365 setup via MX records. The settings from the registrar panel are as seen attached.

These DNS settings were done with the assistance of a tech at my Office reseller - I myself managed to break connectivity a few times setting this up and do not want to do it again.

My question is as follows --

From my initial attempts to DIY, the 'email routing' in cPanel is set at 'Automatically Detect Configuration (remote)' from when I was initially tinkering with the MX zones at my host (and using my host's DNS rather than the registrar's).

If I set it back to Local Mail Exchanger in cPanel to fix local outbound email from my Wordpress install, will it break something in my connection to Office365? I don't believe it will but want to be sure.

Thanks for your help!

If your email is hosted by Office365, then you want that set to remote.

If your Wordpress uses the php mail() function (which is the default) this will not break anything.

It shouldn't break anything, I'm curious what is not functioning with outbound email from your WordPress install as that should technically still function.
