Recently loads of random files have started appearing in one of the user folders, as show in the attachment. There's hundreds appearing every day.
These aren't getting created by any code in this account, there's basically nothing in it. Any idea what could be causing this?

Hmmmm, have you asked the account owner to run a virus scan? I remember 3 or 4 years ago there was something that grabbed account details from one of the Windoze ftp clients and then contaminated the site's pages with malware. This isn't the same thing at all, but I still suspect a virus. Have you looked inside one of those files?

    Sorry for the slow reply...

I mean that there is nothing in that account folder that could create files like this, I control that account, and it's just some legacy stuff I keep around, it's basically inactive and has been for ages, but these have only just started appearing.

I ran a virus scan on that account, and nothing was found.

Yes but whats that mean? If you mean an old no traffic wordpress or joomla site that could be significant I think. If you mean html or plain text files, something quite different.

You might want to take a closer look at your logs for clues, right after moving or removing those files.

    Good luck with this.
