I occasionally have emails stuck in the mail queue from Gmail that look like this:

Our system has detected an unusual rate of
421-4.7.0 unsolicited mail originating from your IP address. To protect our
421-4.7.0 users from spam, mail sent from your IP address has been temporarily
    421-4.7.0 rate limited. Please visit
421-4.7.0 http://www.google.com/mail/help/bulk_mail.html to review our Bulk
    421 4.7.0 Email Senders Guidelines. kv8si1874608lac.88 - gsmtp

Now, my server isn't actually sending any bulk mail, but a lot of my users do have mail forwarders set up to their gmail accounts, so any spam they're sent will forward along.

Will gmail see this as my server being a spam relay? Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Due to high mail traffic your mail server IP is blocked in gmail and due to that you are getting this issues, To resolve this I will suggest you please disable all gmail forward to reduce mail traffic of your mail server IP.

Supposedly cPanel 11.48 can also apply spam checks to email being forwarded. We haven't tried yet - waiting for 11.48 to reach Stable - but could potentially help with this type of issue.

Ah great! This is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. One of my users has just an enormous amount of spam being forwarded to gmail, so if this can be caught at the server first this is ideal!
