Niether fedora or cent os are anything as such to do with red hat (maintenence wise), centos is red hat enterprise compiled from source with all the red hat branding removed

fedora is intended as a development platform and is regularly maintained but the open source community but is not supported by red hat, it is built on a base of red hat 9 which was the last version red hat released of their OS before becoming commercial only.

I would say go with CentOS as im sure many others will agree, We've found it to be very stable and never really had any problems with it, if you need support and have the cash then go for red hat enterprise.

I wouldnt recommend using fedora on a production server.

    centOS 4.1 for sure

We have a few boxes running centOS 4.2 (latest)
but technically cPanel supports only 4.1 and lower

we have switched over all Fedora boxes for various reasons - some with ftp issues, and other small things

    go centOS !!!

    cpanel offically supports centos 4.x (x = anything) :)

Just as well, because centos has just updated to 4.3 :)
