Are you able to log into the FTP server from your machine and save contents to it? Please try logging into FTP from your cPanel server:

    Code:
    ftp IP#
At the username and password prompts, enter the username and password you are using for the remote FTP backups. Please replace IP# for the above command with the IP number of the remote FTP machine. Once at that location, try to put a file onto the server. For example, I had a backup file in /home on a cPanel machine (the local machine) and logged into FTP on a remote cPanel machine, I ran these commands once logged into the remote FTP machine to put the file:

    Code:
    lcd /home
    put cpmove-username.tar.gz
This changed the current working directory of the local machine to /home (so the machine I was going to upload the file from), then uploaded the cPanel backup file.

If you have it fail to write the file, then that would indicate the issue is the remote FTP machine.

    Does not match this username:

Did you log in as the exact same user when testing via command line as you are using for the FTP remote user in WHM > Backup > Configure Backup area? The above two users (back57 for the FTP log for the backup failing, and back170 for the testing via command line) aren't the same, so I'm not certain if you did or not.
