    Hi

I have a few clients who are repeatedly being prompted for their passwords during the day. They are all using POP, not IMAP, and while I am collecting more information as we go, that's all the info I have right now.

This behaviour started a few weeks ago shortly after the last cPanel update. We are on RELEASE and are currently running version cPanel 11.24.4-R32603 - WHM 11.24.2 - X 3.9

I have changed many of the connection options in the Exim settings, but to no avail. Does anyone know how I would go about getting more information on how to troubleshoot this?

    Thanks

    Jon

You mean, they are logging into email with their email client, like Outlook, and it's asking for the account password? Are they using SSL or no?

    Hi,

Yes, that's it. They come to work in the morning, fire up their email client and instead of just quietly checking their email all day, it prompts them for their password each time.

There are only a very few people using SSL and so far it doesn't look like those are the ones with the problem.

It does seem like mostly (or perhaps all, not sure yet) are Mac users, though.

same issue here for mac users on cPanel 11.24.4-R33609 - WHM 11.24.2 - X 3.9.
seems to be either a problem with the mac keychain or cpanel, not sure where the fault lies. it does seem to be a common issue with keychain though, maybe due to an os update ?

Hi, we have the same problem here. We run cPanel 11.24.4-S33345 - WHM 11.24.2 and the users which reported the problem are not mac users.
Even my own email account is presenting this problem randomly along the entire day.
I've noticed that this happens between 12 and 17 hs, hours in which the activity is in the topmost. This problem started since we upgraded to S33345. I've upgraded/reinstalled exim and courier but nothing changed. I've increased the number of auth daemons and nothing changed.
There are almost 300 email users and the login failure occurs randomly to different account all days and in different domains...
Looking at the logs, exim stated that they are just login failures! As if Outlook would tried an incorrect password, but you all know that is not true.

What's happening? what changes introduced cPanel 11.24 to exim? maybe a still missed change in Stable but that it is present in Current or Release?

I also can recall that immediately after upgrading to last Stable, I've received 4 emails from the server with the following subjects:

    Code:
    [LIST=1]
[*]Certificate for cpanel on xxxxxxxxxx.com was expired and a self signed one was created to replace it.
[*]Certificate for exim on xxxxxxxxxx.com was expired and a self signed one was created to replace it.
[*]Certificate for courier-pop3d on xxxxxxxxxx.com was expired and a self signed one was created to replace it.
[*]Certificate for courier-imapd on xxxxxxxxxx.com was expired and a self signed one was created to replace it.
    [/LIST]
The body of one of them, i.e.:

    Code:
Certificate for courier-pop3d on xxxxxxxxxx.com was expired and a self signed one was created to replace it. You should install a new certifcate as soon as possible to replace the self signed one that was installed to replaced the expired one. You can install a new certificate in WHM under "Manager Service SSL Certificates", or by clicking this link: https://xxxxxxxxxx.com:2087/scripts2/manageservicecrts
But, when you go to that section under WHM, the certificates states a validity until 2010. I don't understand what's happening.

May this have any relation with the main login problem reported in this thread??

    Thanks

Why not just regenerate all new certs in that section and see if it helps you or not? Won't hurt anything, other than you'll have to accept a new one to your browser for cPanel.

After regenerating the certs as stated above, my WHM is being logged out almost every 2 minutes. The live layer showing the server load values (/scripts2/top) which is reloaded every X seconds is the first to require the prompt to login every time it is automatically reloaded.
Maybe I need to do something else after regenerate the certs or perhaps somebody at the staff should take a look at this issue.

I recommend clearing your cache and if that doesn't resolve this issue, let our staff look into this by submitting a support ticket: http://tickets.cPanel.net/submit

I think it may be a bug. The problem only occurs on Internet Explorer. I have IE7. I tried with Firefox 3.06 and everything was ok, no prompts.

No more news? stphosting, jonwatson, could you resolve this issue?
I'm still receiving login prompts reports randomly from different accounts.

Well, I've been trying the solution posted by elkram in a similar thread and 1) this setting didn't repaired the repeated password prompts, and 2) setting it to use up to 50 auth daemons keeps csf's lfd module hanging down several times a day.

I've already tried eximup/courierup with the --force param in both them and nothing changed.

We've upgraded to cPanel 11.24.4-S33345 - WHM 11.24.2 and nothing happened.

This is really annoying. I know about some other local colleagues running the latest cPanel STABLE and RELEASE versions are having the same problems.

I ask the staff: May this be solved if I migrate to Dovecot?

Nope, this was a bug on courier at the initial date of this post. It is now corrected.
