Thanks for the details. Is your server currently configured to handle mail? The MX records for the domain should point to the system that handle mail, so if the mail should *not* be handled by the local machine you should select the remote MX server. That would also keep you from receiving mail on the local server.

Can you check the MX record in the domain's DNS to see the settings there?
