Resetting DNS for a domain name solves email problems ...why?

I've noticed several times if a user's email box's are not receiving or their forwards are not working, simply going into the DNS editor and iterating the ID, it resetting the DNS for that domain name, instantly fixes many email issues.

My question is has anyone else noticed this and what is the deal. Is Cpanel actively loosing DNS entries or is there something else weird going on here?
