    Hi guys,

Hope you can help. I have a forum whereby one of the moderators has deleted two threads that I need to restore.

The forum is SMF. I am running it on my own VPS and have access to the root.

I have set a weekly/monthly backup within WHM. I need to get a copy of the CPanel SQL database that our forum uses in order to extract the thread from the SQL databases and then merge it with the live database.

The issue Ihave is I cannot see where the database is in the backups.

I have used WinSCP to get to the backups but cannot find where the SQL databases would be? Can you help?

Here is a screen grab of what I can see. I have 5 databases in the CPanel and the backup is set to backup Per account. There is only one account on this VPS

Where are your backups? From your images you can see that these files are the:
"Backup Configuration Files (not needed for account restoration)"

In that Weekly directory should also be your account backups. I dont see those here.

Inside a full account backup: username\mysql\ directory contains all databases (should contain all) for the account.

Thanks for your response. Using WHM is new for me. Totally fine within CPanel but new to WHM.

I set the WHM backups as default. So not sure where the default directory where these would be stored is. This is what I see in WinSCP

If I was to guess: WHM > Backup > Configure Backup, Backup Accounts setting is unchecked.

Also, there is no sense in backing up to the same hard drive as you've done. If the server is hit with an attack those files would probably be useless, if the server drops dead, they are indeed useless.

This is how it is configured. I thought I was backing up the forum files and forum databases, is this not true?

By your settings, Backups only run once a week, Sunday. Backup the accounts, disabled. Configuration files enabled. We know you have these, they appear in your screenshots. And you did not setup a backup location, the default setting says right under it that where you've got backups going is a "very bad idea"

From what I can tell, you have no backup to restore those posts from.

Sorry to be the one with nothing but bad news. :/

Thanks, appreciate your assistance. Now comes the inevitable, how do I configure it so it automates the backups weekly that encompasses the databases? Glad it happened with a couple of threads being deleted rather than the whole database going up the proverbial.

The option to backup the SQL databases per account is shown in this screen print:

    http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/9919/backup3.jpg

Could you please submit a ticket to us, omen666, for us to investigate to see whether these backups exist? This could be done in WHM > Support Center > Contact cPanel or using the link in my signature.

I do know that when configuration files aren't selected, we have an internal case (32045) where MySQL backups aren't created, but I am not aware of issues when both are selected for those files being created for the databases.

Agreed. You might want to speak with your provider about adding a second drive, or off server backup space. Some providers do offer that.

The Docs should be helpful to you in understanding your options:

Thanks Tristan, I did think the Per Account feature should have backed them up. I have submitted a support request as advised.

    Appreciate the assistance.
