Rock solid UK-based dedicated server providers?

G'day.

We've got one of our dedicated servers with The Planet in the US, and are very happy with them. We're looking into firing up another dedicated server, and the obvious choice is to get it with The Planet again (in another one of their data centres). That said, seeing as I'm from the UK originally I'd love to imagine that UK data centres can compete with The Planet in terms of price + performance (incl. massive traffic allowance) +service. But perhaps (like here in Australia IMHO) they can't?

Does anyone have any recommendations in this regard?

Thanks!

Go on, have a guess
Just giving our current provider some exercise as it happens :) Our main server with them has had a hard disk failure and they're very promptly and very friendly going about replacing it within a few minutes of asking.

I've been around most of the major providers in the USA and the UK and have settled with Coreix in the UK (I still have the odd server with EV1 and SM/TP). They have a dedicated server section called dedifast:

Haven't had anything but a pleasant experience with them and would happily recommend them.

Thanks for that great referral. I'll certainly check them out.

Most of our clients are Australian companies, and we host most of them with TP in the US and the remainder here in Perth, Australia (co-lo with a local data centre). Very few of our clients would perceive a difference between being hosted in Australia or US (we know, we asked a few who we've moved from one country to the other).

So even though I asked the question about a UK provider, and even though Australian business websites hosted on a UK server probably wouldn't notice the difference, I have to confess to a slight reservation with UK hosting because of the increased ping time. I know ping time isn't everything From here (Australia) we get a ping time of about 260ms to our US server, but about 370ms to, for example, dedifast.com, which suggests to me that our international network pipes are a bit slicker between Aus and the US as opposed to Aus and the UK.

So perhaps I should have asked (and still can) for a recommendation for the best reputable, established, generous traffic allowance, dedicated server provider in a country outside Australia but with the smallest ping time, e.g. Singapore. :)
