How would I make it so root has ftp access on the server?

to the / dir so the whole server.

its easier then using edit on ssh to edit files.

    thanks

You have to remove the user root from the list of users not allowed to ftp.But then again there must be a reason root can't ftp... security i.e. sendin root pass as plain text. You can however use secure ftp on port 22... i think ws_ftp, cute ftp and a few others support that. I use secureFX by http://www.vandyke.com

I've done a forum search and found other posts about doing this but i really do prefer ftp.

There has to be a way to enable it in pureftp's config.

    Thanks

If you mean you prefer to use FTP instead of Secure FTP for root access, you better think again. Standard FTP connections can be intercepted and you don't want to allow someone else access to your root password.

I FTP (secure) to my server daily for various checkups and work. I use SecureFX from vandyke.com myself. Any ftp program with the secure connection option can be used. One free program is WinSCP from winscp.vse.cz which will do what you need.

It should work. It may have 2 different secure connection options. Try both of them.

Try connecting to your server name i.e. (server.domain.com) and try connecting by IP.

Does the program give you an option to connect to port 22 instead? That's the one I connect to.

SecureFX gives 2 secure connection options, FTP over SSH2, which was what I figured it would be at first, or SFTP, which is the one that works. SFTP uses port 22. The other one also tells me the password is wrong.
