The root login to our WHM just stopped working. It might have been a result of running /scripts/rebuildetcpasswd, but we're not sure.

All of the other accounts on the server seem to be working fine. We can still log in via SSH and cpanel with the root account, but it appears that WHM is just plain spanked.

We've run upcp to the latest stable with no results.

Anyone have any tips as to how we can fix this?

How can you fix it if you can't login??

Does the root password work for SSH?

You will probably need to contact your NOC.

We can log in via SSH. See first post.

rebuildetcpasswd reads cpanel account information and appends it to the passwd, group, and shadow files. If your files were ok to begin with, the script will make duplicate entries.

Is there a good way to clean this all up?
