    Could you elaborate on the purpose of requiring SMTP authentication for the root user? Is it causing any issues with email delivery?

    yes, i use mandrill to guarantee the delivery of email from my websites on my server and its kinda annoying to have system go via the local host route. mainly because gmail blocks emails from my server
